Wear Time: The Matte Lipsticks lasted an extremely long time. The Butters come in a wide range of light colors that would be perfect for easy, quick application if you were in a rush and just need a little something to finish your makeup. They don’t build into an completely opaque color, but they are still opaque enough to cover lightly pigmented lips. The color is a little bit sheer, so even the brightest colors still appear soft and sweet. They do feather almost immediately around the cupid’s bow and outside corners of the lips, but it is not extremely noticeable on lighter colors. Even a couple of hours after application, I could still comfortably rub my lips together. The Butters apply very softly, and feel almost like a lip balm. They can show lip lines almost immediately, so I do not recommend these for dry lips even with a balm underneath. These are not the best lipsticks for applying in a hurry, and they take a bit of time to work into a perfect lip. It’s nothing that can’t be worked with, but the lipstick itself can appear raised up in random spots on the lips. Matte – MerlotĪpplication: The Mattes are very pigmented, but the thickness of the formula gives them a little bit of a texture even when applied over a lip balm and lip liner. The only way to stop this from happening is to grasp the tube by the clear center when applying it to the lips, which is a little bit awkward, but works just fine.Ĭonsistency: The Mattes are very thick and opaque, while th e Butters feel more like a lip balm and are slightly sheer. While this type of packaging looks very nice on a store shelf, for each of the four tubes that I have, the product twists down extremely easily and will often disappear back into the tube while I am attempting to apply it. The brand new Macaron Lipsticks look like they come in the same style of bullet, which leads me to believe that Nyx is abandoning the basic, all black bullet with a product window at the base, which they have used in the past for the Extra Creamy Round Lipsticks and the Black Label Lipsticks. The Matte lipsticks all come in black tubes, while the Butter lipsticks come in packaging that matches the color of the product.

The top and bottom thirds are colored, while the center is clear to reveal the product inside.

Packaging: Both the Matte and Butter lipsticks come in what appears to be Nyx’s chosen standard bullet. Wear Time: Mattes last 7+ hours, Butters 2 hours give or take.Ĭons: Mattes will show vertical lip lines, Butters are not long wearingīutter Lipstick in Razzle Fiesta and Matte Lipstick in Tea Rose Packaging: Bullet shape is the same, Mattes come in black, Butters come in colored tubesĬonsistency: Mattes are thick and slightly drying, Butters are thinner and creamy Price Point: Both Matte and Butter Lipsticks $6.00 at Nyx’s site, and $5.99 at Target and CVS (L to R) Razzle Fiesta, Tea Rose, Little Susie, Merlot
